Background of the study
Strategic media outreach involves the deliberate targeting of media channels to disseminate key messages that shape public perception and corporate reputation. For tech startups in Lagos, where innovation and rapid growth are critical, effective media outreach can be a decisive factor in building a favorable corporate image. This study compares various media outreach strategies—such as targeted press releases, exclusive interviews, and social media engagements—to assess their influence on corporate reputation (Okeke, 2023). Research has shown that startups that adopt proactive media outreach not only enhance their visibility but also build credibility and trust among investors and customers (Adenuga, 2024). However, challenges such as media bias, inconsistent messaging, and limited resources can hinder the effectiveness of these strategies. By analyzing quantitative media sentiment data and qualitative feedback from key stakeholders, this research aims to determine which media outreach approaches are most successful in enhancing corporate reputation and to provide recommendations for tech startups seeking to optimize their public relations efforts (Ibrahim, 2025).
Statement of the problem
Tech startups in Lagos face significant challenges in executing strategic media outreach that positively influences corporate reputation. Inconsistent messaging, media bias, and resource constraints often result in suboptimal media coverage, undermining efforts to build credibility and trust (Chinwe, 2023). The lack of a comparative framework to evaluate different outreach strategies further complicates the development of effective communication plans. This study addresses the need to systematically assess various media outreach methods and their impact on corporate reputation, thereby enabling startups to adopt best practices that enhance public perception and support long-term growth.
